What this service is
essaymarker.com.au gives feedback on practice essays for HSC English. You submit an essay, and it returns marker-style comments, a rating against each marking criterion, and an estimated mark out of 20.
What it is not
It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to NESA (the NSW Education Standards Authority) or any school or examination body. The marks it gives are estimates produced by software, not official results, and they carry no weight of any kind.
We are open about its accuracy: measured against real marked HSC scripts and NESA standards samples, it lands within two marks of the human mark about 70% of the time, and tends to mark strong essays one to two marks below what a human marker gave them. Treat the estimate as a guide to your writing, never as a prediction of your HSC result.
Who can buy a pass
You must be 18 or over to purchase. If you are under 18, ask a parent or guardian to buy it for you — by paying, they agree to these terms on your behalf.
Passes
A pass is a one-off purchase covering a set number of essays until a stated date. It is tied to your account and cannot be transferred or shared. An essay counts against your pass only when it is actually marked — if marking fails, or you reopen an essay you have already had marked, nothing is deducted.
Unused essays are not refunded when a pass expires, except where the law requires otherwise — see our refund policy.
Using it honestly
Submit your own work. Do not submit other people’s essays, and do not use this service in any way that breaches your school’s rules on assessment or academic honesty. Feedback is for improving your own writing; what you do with it is your responsibility.
Availability
This is a small service run by one person. We aim to keep it running and working, but we cannot promise uninterrupted availability. If it is unavailable for a significant period during your pass, contact us and we will put it right.
Your rights under Australian law
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, and those rights cannot be contracted out of. Beyond those rights, our liability is limited to resupplying the service or refunding what you paid for it.
Changes
We may update these terms. If we change them in a way that materially affects a pass you have already bought, the terms you agreed to at the time of purchase continue to apply to that pass.
